Bachata is a sensual dance that originated in the countryside and rural, marginal neighborhoods of the Dominican Republic in the 1960's. The lyrics of Bachata songs are usually romantic and the body movements and steps of the dance are comparable to the Lambada.
Develop the fundamentals of dance through control, poise, precision, fluency and grace using the technique and style of ballet. With classical ballet barré, center work and progressions this class improves fundamentals including body alignment, vocabulary and correct positions of the legs, feet and arms. Students who are serious about improving as dancers will find that ballet classes are an important part of their training.
This class is designed to give the young dancer an opportunity to discover and explore different types of dance. It incorporates creative movement, ballet, tap and tumbling.
Note: Combination classes may include the following: tap, ballet, creative movement, jazz and tumbling. A wide variety of styles are used in the combination class to allow students to explore and experience the possibilities of movement. This variety also gives the teacher a base to make the class stimulating. When a student chooses to concentrate on a particular dance style, the individual classes in tap, jazz, hip hop, ballet or tumbling are recommended.
Contemporary focuses primarily on executing choreography combinations which will utilize and expand the dancer's acquired technique and performance quality. Class requires at least one year of jazz or ballet technique class and/or instructor approval.
Street dance style integrating jazz technique. Students will learn the latest new dance moves. This style of dance allows the body to move freely and funky, while integrating the dancer's own personal style.
Jazz technique is based on the natural movement of the body and is designed to increase body control and coordination. Routines are set to modern and contemporary music.
Lyrical combines ballet technique with the soul of jazz. Combinations are choreographed as interpretation of the music's lyrics.
Pointe is an extension of ballet. It requires solid, consistent, and current ballet training coupled with strength in the legs and the core of the dancer's body. Available only to those taking at least two other weekly ballet classes. Subject to pre-requisites.
Teaches an awareness of beat, timing and rhythm. Tap dancing is a fun and exciting form of dance where the dancer is able to make different sounds using their feet. Join the likes of famous tap dancers such as Gene Kelley, Gregory Hines, Ann Miller and Savion Glover while exploring the exciting study of tap.
Tiny Tots is a class for the youngest dancers that will include preballet, creative movement and tumbling.
Begin learning tumbling skills that later advance into gymnastics. Some stunts with partners and props will be introduced. This class focuses on timing these moves as well as improving flexibility, balance and strength.
Discover what salsa is all about. Learn the basic steps in this class so you can move into the next level - where you will learn to master all those really neat tricks. The following steps are covered. Basic salsa step, basic open footwork, hand and foot coordination, single turns, proper lead technique, application of tension in lead and follow, and cross body lead and follow.Back to top
